Summer excursion in Waalenburg nature reserve In summer, nature comes to rest. After the breeding season, mowing takes place in phases. However, this does not mean that there is little to enjoy. On the contrary! Numerous butterflies can be found in the herbaceous and flowery strips, including the beautiful Icarus Blue. The first breeding birds from northern regions are also returning. With a bit of luck, waders such as black horseman and ruff can be admired in their beautiful summer plumage. The young birds follow later, in the second half of the summer. Their parents then slowly molt to the more austere winter plumage. In Waalenburg the young harriers have now fledged and are exploring the area. The adult birds first bring prey, but they also teach the young birds the art of hunting. A beautiful spectacle! During the excursion you can use good quality loaner binoculars free of charge. We conclude the excursion at De Marel Nature Center with a cup of coffee or tea.
