Summer excursion in the Waalenburg nature reserve
In the summer, nature comes to rest. After the breeding season, mowing is done in phases. However, this does not mean that there is little to enjoy. On the contrary! Numerous butterflies can be found in the herbaceous and flower-rich strips, including the beautiful common blue. The first breeding birds from northern regions are also returning. Waders such as the black-tailed godwit and ruff can be admired with a bit of luck in their beautiful summer and magnificent plumage. Later, in the second half of the summer, the young birds follow. Their parents then slowly moult to the more sober winter plumage. In Waalenburg, the young harriers have now flown out and are exploring the area. The adult birds first bring prey, but they also teach the young birds the art of hunting. A beautiful spectacle!
During the excursion, you can make free use of a good quality loaner binocular.
We conclude the excursion in the De Marel Nature Centre with a cup of coffee or tea
