Autumn walk in the Waalenburg nature reserve
Under the guidance of an enthusiastic guide, you will take a beautiful walk through the Waalenburg nature reserve. At this time of year, this is a good place to enjoy the autumn migration. Numerous birds arrive from more northerly breeding areas and visit Texel to rest and recharge their batteries for their onward journey or to spend the winter here.
Due to the large area of wet grassland, the many creeks, the tranquility in the area in combination with an abundance of food, you can encounter numerous bird species. This varies from water birds such as white-fronted and barnacle geese, wigeons, teals to wading birds such as golden plovers, ruffs and curlews. During the day, these species are often joined by numerous seagulls. You also have a chance of seeing birds of prey, such as peregrine falcons, goshawks or hen harriers. In the copses at the Hertenkamp lookout point, songbirds such as the whinchat, blackcap and chiffchaff complete the range. Especially at this time of year it is a challenge to discover a spectacular vagrant!
During the excursion you can use a good quality loaner binocular free of charge.
We conclude the walk in Nature Center De Marel with a cup of delicious hot chocolate or coffee.
