On the occasion of the Wadden Bird Festival we organize this unique excursion!
Under the guidance of 2 enthusiastic and knowledgeable guides you will go in search of dune birds on the northern tip of Texel. Frank Majoor and Maja Roodbergen have been researching the wheatear, a bird that appeals to the imagination, for several years on behalf of Sovon (Bird Research Netherlands). Due to a number of causes, this bird has declined rapidly in numbers in recent years and has almost disappeared as a breeding bird in the Netherlands. The dunes on the northern tip of Texel are one of the last strongholds, where several pairs of wheatear breed in abandoned rabbit holes. In addition to the wheatear, you can encounter several species that prefer the dunes to breed. Think of the redstart, whitethroat, blackcap and linnet.
