Salt marsh, mudflats and spoonbills - De Schorren

wednesday 8 october 2025 15:30 - 18:00 Hours

De Schorren is teeming with life. It is the ideal nursery for spoonbills, seagulls and eider ducks. Hares hop happily between the flowering sea lavender and sea aster. Join the ranger on an expedition in a prohibited area. Herbal salt On the way to the spoonbill colony, you walk between wonderfully scented sea wormwood and the ranger lets you taste the herbal plants. Cross winding creeks and wander to the mudflats. Wadden an expedition At first glance, the mudflats seem like a lifeless sandy plain, but if you join the ranger, the opposite will be proven. Just like all those thousands of wading birds, you will go in search of small creatures and long lugworms. We fish small shrimps from the salt water and take a close look at the mudflat buffet. Starting point expedition Please note!! We leave at the indicated time from the starting point at the gate on the south side of De Schorren. This is a 20-minute walk from the parking lot in the bend of the Lancasterdijk and the Stuifweg. You can cycle to the starting point of the expedition by bike. Be on time! The expedition cannot be postponed due to the rising water. Important to know The minimum age for participation is 9 years! Duration of the discovery tour is 2.5 hours. Wear high and well-fitting boots or old sneakers with laces! We walk through the mudflats, shoes get very dirty here!
