Early in his career, Gertjan Scholte-Albers left the studio to have the rich experience of painting outdoors. Since then, he has frequently ventured out with a paint cart behind his bicycle or scooter. The space, depth and colours of the landscape that surround him while painting are clearly tangible in his work. In the oil paintings in extraordinary formats, you experience his awe for nature. “I want to satisfy the joy of my eye” The landscapes look extremely expressive, the paint treatment is energetic, full of dedication, passion and self-confidence, brushed down in a completely unique visual language. With thinly dripping layers of paint, combined with pasty oil paint applied in large formats, the paintings come to life, as it were. Galerie Posthuys and Gertjan Scholte-Albers have been working together for almost twenty years and since the opening in 2006 his work is shown in the gallery: in stock, in biennial solo exhibitions and in group exhibitions such as Texels Landschap and Haring. Galerie Posthuys (Brink 14, De Koog) is open from Wednesday to Sunday from 11 am to 5 pm.
