New exhibition: "the container shipping"

donderdag 12 september 10:00 - 17:00 uur

A new temporary exhibition has been opened in Schipbreuk and Jutters Museum: "container shipping". Numerous containers have fallen from ships in recent decades and often the cargo was washed up on the beach, including on the Texel beach. We have had, among other things, shoes, cosmetics, sleds, cans of milk powder and bags of cocktail nuts. Another great time was the stranding of torn open containers of cigarettes from the Hollywood brand. All of Texel was dragging those cigarettes. A Texel lady from knitted cotton from a washed-up container in 1982 knitted a sweater, which can also be seen in the exhibition. The container ship MSC Zoƫ recently lost more than 300 containers near Terschelling. The beaches of Terschelling, Ameland and Schiermonnikoog were full of washed up goods, various items also washed up on Texel; including children's jackets, car parts and seats, all of which can also be seen in the new exhibition "container shipping". The exhibition can be seen throughout the year in the Juttersmuseum Flora which is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
