Seascapes in Galerie Posthuys

Dimitri Feenstra has often painted on Texel. The North Sea in particular is a source of inspiration for him. What is special about this exhibition is that this time it has also focused on the Wadden Sea side of the island. And especially the nature reserve De Schorren. He painted this area on the spot with oil on small panels, which he calls 'pochades'. A pochade is not so much intended as an elaborate and detailed painting of a landscape, but more as a sketch in oil paint. They give a fleeting impression of the colors and atmosphere of the place where they are being painted and that gives them a unique expressiveness.
“I paint my landscapes with oil, preferably from observation and often on panel. My way of painting looks sketchy and spontaneous. I deliberately keep the compositions simple. The traces of the brushstrokes and skin of the paint are visible and therefore important visual elements. For me it is more about portraying the atmosphere and experience of a landscape than an exact, true-to-life representation of reality. I try to convert my experience and feeling at that moment into a painting.”
In addition to being a painter, Dimitri is also a graphic artist and there are a number of new linocuts on display with De Schorren as the subject.
Galerie Posthuys (Brink 14, De Koog) is open from Wednesday to Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
