Leo van Halem (Utrecht, 1942) is participating in the Texel Cultuur Eiland art route for the first time this year. He is exhibiting his Texel paintings every Thursday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in July at his daughter Iris Stekelenburg-van Halem's house at Pontweg 25, Den Hoorn, near the boat.
Iris: 'When my husband Gerrit and I moved here from Culemborg over two years ago, we immediately had the idea that my father could exhibit in our house, with beautiful light and sufficient space. Texel has inspired him for years: the low horizon, the skies, the color of the sea reflected in the clouds. He thought it was a good idea. It seemed most convenient and fun to participate in an open studio route or something like that if that was possible. I did some research and came into contact with Hannie Oskam from Texel Cultuur Eiland, organizer of the art routes on Texel from April to September. My father was allowed to participate and that is how it came about that his watercolours, oil paintings, art cards and booklets can be seen and bought here. I am very happy and grateful for that!’
Leo van Halem lives in Doorn, regularly visits Texel, attended the Artibus art academy in Utrecht, was a graphic designer and drawing teacher. He still paints at home and abroad. His work is realistic with sometimes a touch of cubism.
