Beachcombers Museum Flora recently opened a new temporary exhibition. The exhibition called 'flip flop arts' is a colorful exhibition with images made from recycled flip-flops from Kenya. The works of art, made from flip-flops picked up on the beach, fit in perfectly with the beachcombing theme. ?Flip-flops are the most worn footwear in the world. Because it is cheap, they are often worn in developing countries. Many discarded flip-flops end up in nature and the ocean. There they join the 'Plastic Soup'. A large part of the Plastic Soup washes up on the beaches of Kenya, among others. The organization 'Ocean Sole' is committed to giving the washed-up flip-flops a second life. Creative Kenyan artists upcycle the discarded flip-flops into famous animals from the African savannah and the oceans. In this way, each image combats environmental pollution and creates employment. Each flip-flop has a different color or even multiple colors. This gives the artists the opportunity to vary endlessly. The exhibition at beachcombers museum Flora contains various statues, large and small, such as giraffes, lions and elephants. A 'workshop' has also been recreated in which you can see how these images are created.
