Three professors in one village, that makes Den Hoorn perhaps the smartest village in the Netherlands, as Hoornder Sjoerd Groeskamp ‘played’ with Ouwe Sunderklaas last year. That game was ultimately the reason for the lectures, in collaboration with Cor van Heerwaarden. The floor is given to José Joordens, Corina Brussaard and Laura Villanueva on these three spring afternoons.
- NIOZ -
First, that ‘coincidence’: it will come as no surprise that the NIOZ has given chance a helping hand here. For decades, that institute has attracted leading marine researchers to Texel, and in particular to ‘t Horntje and Den Hoorn. “That’s where it all started for me,” admits co-organizer José in an interview with the Texelse Courant. “I am a marine biologist, studied plankton... Although I later strayed into human evolution and obtained my PhD in geology.”
This Sunday, the floor is given to Corina Brussaard. There are so many viruses in the sea - isn't that dangerous? Why the foam on the beach? The food chain becomes a food web. Corina takes us on a journey to research at sea.
