Cliff hanger - Goossen Karssenberg project

From 26 to 29 June, Klifhanger will be held in Den Hoorn again, the biennial manifestation of art on location. Goossen Karssenberg (Utrecht 1962) is one of the participating artists. His work is based on Islamic geometric patterns. He designs new patterns and shows how the unique mosaics from the Islamic tradition enrich different cultures. As a contribution to Klifhanger, he presents a model of the portal of 'the white church' in Den Hoorn, completely decorated with mosaic. He was inspired by his visit(s) to the Topkapirol in Istanbul, the famous large palace built in the 15th century as the headquarters of the Ottoman sultans. With his model, Goossen creates a fictional reality and sheds new light on the familiar image of 'the white church'. Because what would it mean if this type of mosaic had also been given a place in Protestantism - or would still be given one? Visitors can also get to work with geometric patterns themselves to experience the magic of it. With this project, De Vermaning, once a Mennonite clandestine church, becomes a place where two world religions meet peacefully.
